Rotoscoping

After the interesting find and experimenting the other day i did a bit of research into the idea of drawing on photos. and found out about a technique called Rotoscoping which is an animation technique whereby photos or frames of a video are traced over by the animator to create more realistic looking drawings and animations.

A Scanner darkly is a full length movie that was first filmed and then every frame was rotoscoped:

i realy like the realistic feel that rotoscoping gives while still being a sort of "cartoon" the images and movements look alot more realistic so the have a much greater impact.

Experiments:
Photobucket
i made this animation by tracing frames from a video onto clear OHP film and then putting the frames together on flash.
all the frames put together

Photobucket
i did the same thing for this animation but drew the frames out on photoshop instead of by hand.

i also wanted to try a much more detailed rotoscope picture and so used photoshop to paint over a picture of myself.i took more time to try and create a picture that was as similar to the photograph as possible.
